Songbird Fretwork Spoon Necklace
I made this necklace by piercing out the image of a a songbird from a vintage silver plated souvenir spoon bowl using a traditional jeweler's hand saw. I gave the spoon a brushed finish and hung it from a 24-inch chain. The spoon pendant is about 2 1/2 inches long and 1 1/4 inches wide. When I finished this one-of-a-kind necklace, I noticed that the spoon bowl had WWI scene embossed onto the surface. You can still make out some soldiers and the words, "World War." To me, this happy coincidence makes the necklace a message of peace. The pictures show the necklace both front and back. The necklace can be worn either way, and it goes with every outfit, since the colors show through the openwork design.
